This week’s Vancouver Island Vision takes Shannon to Sequoia Park to see the Torii Gate in Campbell River. The gate reps the 10 year mark of twinning with Ishikari, Japan. The reason we have becoming twining is due to our salmon. This relationship started back in 1983 as Campbell River is known as the salmon capital of the world and Ishikari is known as the town of salmon. Since the relationship formed, the two places had developed a relationship working on projects together as well as supporting exchange students. If you’re out around town getting fresh air during social distancing, stop by to view the gate. There are stairs leading down to the beach to a nice, relaxing spot to hang out. The gate is located right across from the museum just on the edge of downtown.
